This Bayberry candle is a gift from a friend,
On Yuletide Eve burn it down to the end.
A Bayberry candle burned down to the socket,
Brings luck to the home and wealth to the pocket.

When the first settlers arrived on our shores, every moment was one of survival. Everything was in short supply including candles. Back then, candles were made of tallow (animal fat) which tend to smoke and give off an odor which can turn rancid. It didn’t take long for the early colonists to discover that the abundant Bayberry bush had berries that would give off a waxy residue when boiled. Colonial women learned to collect and save the Bayberry wax that would rise to the surface of the water and make them into taper candles. This began the tradition of boiling the berries, only to discover a sweet smelling wax with a long clean burn. One pound of Bayberry wax requires 15 pounds of bayberries, so Bayberry candles were only burned on special occasions in colonial times. A candle made of Bayberry wax was a real treasure to the colonists who saved them for special occasions.
In more modern times, it became the tradition to burn your Bayberry candle all the way down on the holiday of your choice (Yuletide, Christmas Eve or New Years Eve) to bring blessings of abundance in the coming year. It is not known who actually came up with the traditional Bayberry candle poem, but we love it, and have illuminated our homes with Bayberry candles for years! Carry on this beautiful tradition with our handcrafted Tea Lights, Votives, Travel Tins and Apothecary Jars which are 100% soy wax, cotton-wicked, Reiki blessed and infused with Bayberry oil then crowned with Aventurine, Bayberry bark, Carnelian, Citrine, Clear Quartz, Peridot and Pyrite.
Our .05 oz Bayberry Tea Lights have approximately a 3 hour burn time each. We are now including the crystals for your Tea Lights in a separate bag attached to your order. These can be placed around your Tea Lights as they burn, placed inside a small organza bag, used in a craft project, or added to an indoor/outdoor plant’s soil, etc. Once you’ve worked with them, you can always return them to Mother Earth too!
Our 3 oz Bayberry Votives have approximately a 12-14 hour burn time.
Our 6 oz Bayberry Travel Tins are a great alternative to glass containers, and can burn well more than 20+ hours, so if you plan to burn this particular candle through the ‘eve’ of your choice, or burn it through all 3 eve’s, we suggest only lighting it for a few hours at a time, then extinguishing it so that the wick can fully dry. Once the wick is dry enough, ‘knock off’ or ‘cut’ the excess wick so that the candle continues to burn cleanly. We use only 100% American grown soy wax, which will not throw soot, but it WILL if you don’t provide the proper wick maintenance. If you see any darkening or soot forming on your candle, its because the wick had curled and was relit, or there is excess wick that hasn’t been removed.
Our 16 oz Bayberry Apothecary jars can burn for 40+ hours! Please burn these candles in the same manner as our Travel Tins mentioned above. Please provide proper wick maintenance to ensure a clean burn of your Bayberry candle.
Tea Lights ~ (6 per set) are $8.00 each set ***Please note that we are no longer including the crystals on top of our Bayberry Tea Lights. This is to ensure a safe burn as the crystals can produce high heat and potentially melt the recyclable tea cup!***
Votives ~ $8.00 each
Travel Tins ~ $14.00 each
Apothecary Jar ~ $28.00 each
As always, 30% from the purchase of our candles benefits a charitable cause!
