This Bayberry candle is a gift from a friend, On Yuletide Eve burn it down to the end. A Bayberry candle burned down to the socket, Brings luck to the home and wealth to the pocket. ~ Author unknown When the first settlers arrived on our shores, every moment was one of survival. Everything was in short supply including candles. Back then, candles were made of tallow (animal fat) which tend to smoke and give off an odor which can turn rancid. It didn’t take long for the early colonists to discover that the abundant Bayberry bush had berries that would give off a waxy residue when boiled. Colonial women learned to collect and save the Bayberry wax that would rise to the surface of the water and make them into taper candles. This began the tradition of boiling the berries, only to discover a sweet smelling wax with a long clean burn. One pound of Bayberry wax requires 15 pounds of bayberries, so Bayberry candles were only burned on special occasions in colonial times. A candle made of Bayberry wax was a real treasure to the colonists who saved them for special occasions. In more modern times, it became the tradition to burn your Bayberry candle all the way down on the holiday of your choice (Yuletide, Christmas Eve or New Years Eve) to bring blessings of abundance in the coming year. It is not known who actually came up with the traditional Bayberry candle poem, but we love it, and have illuminated our homes with Bayberry candles for years! Carry on this beautiful tradition with our handcrafted Votives, Travel Tins, Prayer and Apothecary Jars which are 100% soy and beeswax, cotton-wicked, Reiki blessed and infused with Bayberry oil then crowned with Aventurine, Bayberry bark, Carnelian, Citrine, Clear Quartz, Peridot and Pyrite. All candles and votives are accompanied by a parchment with instructions. Our 3 oz Bayberry Votives have approximately a 12-14 hour burn time. This is your best option for following the American tradition of burning a Bayberry candle on Yuletide or New Year's Eve! These can only be purchased in sets of three for $25. Our 8 oz Bayberry Travel Tins are a great alternative to glass containers, and can burn well more than 30+ hours, so if you plan to burn this particular candle through the ‘eve’ of your choice, or burn it through all 3 eve’s, we suggest only lighting it for a few hours at a time, then extinguishing it so that the wick can fully dry. Our 8 oz Bayberry Travel Tins are $16 each. Our 16 oz Bayberry Apothecary jars can burn for 40+ hours! Please burn these candles in the same manner as our Travel Tins mentioned above. Please provide proper wick maintenance to ensure a clean burn of your Bayberry candle. Each 16 oz Apothecary jar is $28 each. Since we are unable to offer the black tin lids with handles, each Apothecary jar will arrive with a wooden lid etched with the Bayberry poem you see above here. We are known for our prayer jars here at Mystic Pines Candle Co. It's our most popular vessel, so we've decided to offer it in our signature Bayberry scent this holiday season! With proper wick maintenance, you can enjoy your Bayberry in our 14.8 oz prayer jar for more than 70+ hours! Bayberry Prayer jars are $28 each. In years past, we used to place jingle bells on our candles. It was nice little added touch, but now that we carry the treasured New England Bells here at Mystic Pines, we wanted to be able to also offer this tradition with our customers during this special time of year too! Remember the Polar Express movie? Do you believe? This cheerful bell is very popular around the holiday time and very similar to the bell in the movie! This nickel plated, solid brass bell, with an elegant red ribbon will bring a huge smile to every adult, or child, who receives it and hears its beautiful sound! Polar Express Bells by New England Bells would be an add-on cost to your Bayberry purchase and are $6.80 each. ***Please place your orders soon!!! Our signature Bayberry: An American Tradition will only be available through Mystic Pines Candle Co., and at a limited quantity this year due to supply and demand (with the particular companies that we work with!) so unfortunately, these little gems may not last long!*** ***OUR CUT-OFF TIME FOR HOLIDAY SHIPPING THIS YEAR IS DECEMBER 10th!*** ***PLEASE KNOW THAT WE WILL NOT BE REIMBURSING ANY SHIPPING COSTS IF YOUR PACKAGES DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS DUE TO SHIPPING ERRORS BEYOND OUR CONTROL!*** As always, 30% from the purchase of our candles benefits a charitable cause! All Mystic Pines candles are handcrafted, 100% American-grown soy and beeswax, cotton-wicked (lead-free) and Reiki blessed. Please note it may take up 4 to 6 business days to complete and ship your order. HOUSEKEEPING: Candles burn best (and longest), when you allow a wax 'pool' to extend completely to the edge of the glass, otherwise your candle will tunnel straight down and the life of your candle will diminish greatly. Ceiling fans and floor fans (any type of moving air!) can also affect the way your candle burns. LEGAL DISCLAIMER: All Mystic Pines Candle Co., candles are sold as curios only. Every soy wax item is lovingly hand-poured and Reiki Blessed. In no way, shape, or form do we guarantee any particular outcome. You must add your own pure love and positive intention to the products in order to make them work for you! CAUTION: Never leave a candle burning unattended. Certain candles may contain crystals and herbs that could potentially 'spark' or crack the glass. Always burn your candles, votives and tea lights on a fireproof dish when possible. **All artwork and photographs appearing on this site are the property of Mystic Pines Candle Co.
