Hops (Humulus lupulus) is commonly known for its use in making beer, to add flavor and preservation. But it is so much more! Hops is used often for helping with sleep. David Winston, a renowned herbalist, claims it works much better than valerian, especially for those who have a lot of brain chatter and can't fall asleep or stay asleep. - a relaxing nervine and helps with tension, specifically used for muscle tension, including intestinal cramping and menstrual cramps. - also helps to decrease stress and anxiety - helps with sleep issues - its bitter taste makes it a digestive herb, helping with upper gastric digestive disorders, including loss of appetite, stagnant digestion, weak digestion, gas, and bloating. - it has phytoestrogenic qualities that have been shown to benefit women with menopausal symptoms. In one study, 120 women in early stages of menopause were given either a hops extract or a placebo for 12 weeks. Those taking the hops extract had significantly fewer hot flashes than those taking the placebo. This plant was grown and harvested in central Minnesota by Mighty Axe Hops. NOTE: 1 oz bottle, comes with a dropper. I use the folk method for making all my tinctures, which uses no measurements except sizing things up with your eyes. So I put the plant material in a jar and then fill with alcohol. For more information on herbs and to read my blog, go to http://www.theherbalcache.com/
