Walking In The Here and Now

Walking in

Walking in the here and now is an extraordinary place to be. Walking is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. As Ti has taught me…We always have the choice to walk mindfully and peacefully…with each step we are kissing the earth…leaving an imprint of our love and compassion for all the world and all humanity. With that, it’s like throwing a little pebble into a lake and noticing how much of an impact that one little pebble can create through the ripples it sends out. Far beyond the impact zone.

Walking mindfully leaves an imprint of peace, happiness, and compassion on our earth. That’s what this kind of mindful walking…walking meditation, can achieve. It can Create many more to join the practice and make a larger impact and imprint.

Walking meditation is the way I started my meditation practice. It can bring a number of benefits in addition to the cultivation of mindfulness. It can be a helpful way of building concentration in all aspects of our lives.

“Dwell in the present moment. For it’s in this moment that everything is happening.”

I invite you to walk in the here and now, this is the perfect place to fill your cup to overflowing and leave behind all self doubt. This is a space we create where the impossible becomes possible and the ordinary becomes extraordinary. This is the place where we heal and strengthen our soul, where divine guidance leads us to our destiny — it’s a gorgeous place to live your life.  For your life is only happening right here, right now…let’s walk with presence and peace.

I’ve found that walking meditation is a great way for active people to incorporate a meditation practice into their lives. When we are tired or sluggish, walking can be invigorating. The sensations of walking can be more powerful than the more subtle sensations of breathing while sitting.

Walking can be very helpful after meals, right after we wake from sleep, or after a long period of sitting meditation. Also at extreme emotional or stressful times, walking meditation can be much more relaxing than sitting. When done for extended periods of time, walking meditation will build strength and stamina.

We can train our minds to be present anytime we walk. We can choose specific activities in our daily routines to practice walking meditation, such as walking down a hallway at home or at work, or from our car to the place we work.

On the average, we spend much more time walking than sitting quietly with our eyes closed. Walking meditation can help us be more present, mindful, and concentrated in our daily activities. It can reconnect us to the simplicity of just being awake and mindful.

“Walk along the high roads of thankfulness, and you will find all kinds of wonderful delights along the way.”

Benefits of a walking meditation practice:

  • Recognize the miracle in every step you take
  • Walking as an opportunity to mindfully touch the fullness of life
  • Reversing negative habits through the unification of body and mind
  • Live and walk with clarity in the here and now, and much more

WALKING MEDITATION Poem by Thich Nhat Hanh

Take my hand.

We will walk.

We will only walk.

We will enjoy our walk

without thinking of arriving anywhere.

Walk peacefully.

Walk happily.

Our walk is a peace walk.

Our walk is a happiness walk.

Then we learn

that there is no peace walk;

that peace is the walk;

that there is no happiness walk;

that happiness is the walk.

We walk for ourselves.

We walk for everyone

always hand in hand.

Walk and touch peace every moment.

Walk and touch happiness every moment.

Each step brings a fresh breeze.

Each step makes a flower bloom under our feet.

Kiss the Earth with your feet.

Print on Earth your love and happiness.

Earth will be safe

when we feel in us enough safety.
